Day 3 madness, craziness, and a history lesson!
Wooooow, I can’t even begin to tell how many people were there today. It’s safe to say Saturday is THE day where there are the most people and events. Unfortunately, most events cost money..like the masquerade which I was told was 30 dollars per person!? Uhh, thanks but no thanks. I will say that I had fun at a couple of panels today and of course more of the dealers room and cosplayers to take in.
The first panel we went to introduced us to the Japanese voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi who has done voices for America and Canada (hetalia), Kamina (Gurren Lagann, Johann Trinity (Mobile Suit Gundam 00), Komui Lee (D Gray-man) Ozma Lee (Macross Frontier) and Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia) among hundreds of others. The panel was strictly a question and answer, but a lot of good questions came up that, IF I COULD HAVE, would have asked myself in an interview with him. He explained that voice acting is generally like any other acting. The best way to start is to go to school and make sure you gain the knowledge you need to make yourself constantly better. His favorite role? Apparently it’s Kamina thus far as it has life lessons that he takes in from acting. Everyone got a little bit of his America and Canada voices and even a little singing from him! If you ever see him in person he likes to be addressed as Aniki. I don’t know why that is, but if you do it he will definitely answer you in public. It was his first time in the states, but he says he’s enjoyed it so far and would like to return to have more time to explore.
The other panel we checked out was a true history to hetalia panel. Now, I thought it was going to be boring judging by the title, but I tried to have an open-mind about it and thankfully it did not disappoint in the least. The panel looked into the history that Hetalia is based off of and believe or not most of the show is based on true events, even the smallest little skits and jokes play off some of the biggest of historical moments. We got to see references from different movies and see why some of the characters are portrayed the way they are in the series. According to the host (Das Kriegsministerium) the anime is so correct that HE learned some new things from it and he was a freakin history teacher! That has to say something about the show. If you haven’t checked out Hetalia, please do and see what all the commotion is about. You’ll probably learn a thing or two and not even know your doing it.
One of the things we also did today was check out the Hetalia meet up. Now, I’ve never been to a meet-up…mostly because I’ve never been dressed as the characters to be able to go to one. So this was a first for me and man it was so hectic! I know the purpose for the meet-up is to get all the characters of a series to pose for picture taking, but I think the amount of people that were there was more thanĀ expected.
I’m sad tomorrow is the last day, but all good things come to an end. Let’s hope I can end it with a bang!
